After 56 years, I have many memories. But, some of the recent memories are precious. Two weeks before she passed over, our daughter was getting married. Billie wanted to go even though she knew it was physically demanding of her. She was so happy to be there and see so many of our family. The following three pictures show many of them:
During the wedding, Billie seemed so happy that our daughter was marrying Ken. Here is a picture of Billie and I holding hands during the wedding:
At one point, when music was playing, I took Billie's hands and began dancing around her wheelchair. A friend grabbed the wheelchair handles and turned her as I danced around her. After we danced our last dance together, I then leaned over, kissed her and thanked her for the dance. Here are a couple of pictures:
On Friday morning, Sept.
23, 2011, I had to go to town for a few minutes. Billie's sister, Patsy, came to
the house to sit with her while I was gone. I bought her a bouquet of flowers
while in town and came home about 10:30 that morning. I kissed her then held the
bouquet for her to see. She had a gleam in her eye, a little smile and said,
"What is that for?"
I replied, "Just to show you I love you." With her smile, she said, "What did
you do wrong?" That was a typical response from her all the years we were
married. I had stopped many an afternoon on the way home from work and got her a
bouquet or sometimes a single rose. She then wanted to go to bed and rest for a
little while. About three hours later she wanted up, her heart quit as I helped
her into her wheelchair.
These last few memories are precious and will be with me forever.
